The study is aimed to track social and economic changes in Hong Kong and their impact on individuals, to establish an important and high quality of databank on both family and individual levels for social science researchers and policy makers, to investigate the trends in social and economic inequality and the causal mechanisms; and to study marriage and family life, particularly gender differences, in the tensions between cancer and family life, the division of household labour, time use, parenthood and parenting, and the subjective assessment of life.  A total of 3 250 face-to-face household interviews were successfully enumerated, representing a response rate of over 40%.
